Can you even calligraphy?
Pretty handwriting, cute doodles, colorful designs in the margins and on planners have trended among artsy people for a long time. Recently, in the spotlight across many friends and media is the revival of calligraphy.
Sophomore Linya Guo sometimes devotes herself to up to three hours of oil painting a day and really immersed herself in calligraphy. Passionate about calligraphy, Guo began Calligraphy Club. The informational meeting was after school on Wed., Dec. 6 in room 148.
“I watched instagram videos of people doing calligraphy to learn how to do it when I first began,” Guo said.
With a due of $5, which covers membership for the year, calligraphy clubbers can take part in learning either modern or traditional calligraphy, depending on the majority of votes cast at the informational meeting.
With the collected fees, Guo plans to buy calligraphy pens for the club to use and practice the members’ calligraphy. She also is planning for the club to have events such as sending letters to nursery homes.
As for the fliers for the club that have been put up around the Commons and locker bay area, Guo handwrote each one, showcasing her calligraphy skills. New fliers for the next meeting are put up as well, which is on Wed., Dec. 13, when the club will officially start.
“I hope to run as Treasurer for Calligraphy Club,” said Adam Kossen, 11.
Officers for Calligraphy Club have not been elected yet, but Guo plans on holding the elections in one of the upcoming meetings.
