JV Lacrosse takes on LaSalle

Aidan Noble, Staff Writer

  • SHOTCALL. JV Coach Kerry Crotty calls out to a player, suddenly changing the formation of the players. The multitude of different plays in lacrosse affect the game in many different ways. Different formations are used on both offense and defense.

    '
  • CROSS. Junior Nick Dooley works his way around a midfielder, looking to quickly pass the ball. An important part of keeping possession of the ball is a technique called cradling, which keeps the ball inside of the stick. This is one of most basic but important parts of lacrosse.

    '
  • FINESSE. Freshman Matthew Wilson dodges around a defender, pulling multiple defenders to him in a strategic play to ultimately move the ball. This play is used to move the defenders into a position in which they cannot defend a goal. This popular play is used on many lacrosse teams.

    '
  • WHEELS. Sophomore Eli Hart blazes down the field, carrying the ball with him in an attempt to give the ball to the offense. This part of the game is called a clear, and it usually occurs after a goalie saves a shot. Usually, a defensive long pole will move the ball down the field, but occasionally a midfielder will carry it.

    '
  • ALL TOGETHER. JV Lacrosse players break out huddles by driving their sticks up in unity. Lacrosse teaches players valuable lessons such as teamwork, friendship, and sportsmanship. The lacrosse season has just ended for JV players, but Varsity players are still playing their tournament.
