IMPROVEMENTS. The Sycamore Junior High track and field project has started construction and will continue throughout the summer. The turf field is due for replacement, as it lasted 12 years. Fall sports teams should be able to begin practices as scheduled.

SHS football games are played each year at Sycamore Junior High School in the Sycamore Stadium known as the Bud Acus Alumni Field.

The field was renamed the Bud Acus Alumni Field in 2006 after the coach.

This summer the stadium will be undergoing some improvements. The turf at the Bud Acus Field will be replaced and the track will be resurfaced.

“The Junior High Stadium Project, which includes the replacement of the Turf at Coach Bud Acus Field and the resurfacing of the Junior High Track is set to be completed by mid-July,” said athletic director Mr. Phil Poggi.

“Teams will be able to begin practicing at that facility again no later then Mon., July 30 which is the [first] day of fall sports practices,” Poggi said.

The track and field are being replaced due to their ages and safety reasons.

“Both the turf and the track surface need to be replaced due to the age and safety of both surfaces. The turf itself just finished up it’s [twelfth] year of play. Average life of a turf field is between 10-12 years. The fibers begin to breakdown and the “hardness” of the surface increases,” Poggi said.
