CHECKMATE. SHS students compete in a tournament involving not athleticism but strategy, knowledge, and thinking. The SHS Chess Team played against Lakota West, ending in a tie three to three with the seventh board being called a draw. While many participating have years of practice under their belts, there are several beginners who have been improving their game with the help of their teammates. There are five varsity players and two JV competitors.
