The need for hobbies

Hobbies can help relieve so much stress from people’s lives, so why do not most people have hobbies they are passionate about? In modern-day society, most teens have their lives overrun by sports and other extracurricular activities, almost 60 percent according to the United States Census Bureau. Consequently, most teens’ lives are overtaken by an overwhelming amount of stress. Hobbies can help relieve a lot of this stress if only these teens had some. One fun, calming and semi-time consuming hobby is making blackout poems. Here is a how-to.

  • PICK A BOOK. Just pick a random book, it does not have to be anything special.

    '
  • PICK A PAGE. I love to pick a page at random, but you can also look through to find a page with words you like.

    '
  • FIND KEYWORDS. Pick out words that stand out to you.

    '
  • PIECE TOGETHER YOUR POEM. Pick the final words that make up the poem. Use your key words and find others to fill in the blanks.

    '
  • DESIGN AND COLOR. Draw your background and color. The background can be as simple as having an all black back or as complex as drawing a face. Most of the time the background complements the words in your poem in some way, this is not required though.

    '
  • COMPLETE THE BLACKOUT POEM. Finish coloring your main images and make sure your words stand out. You can frame your poem, paste it onto a large blank paper or to just leave it as a page from the book.
