Graduation time has the power to stir up a wide range of emotions, and this year was certainly no exception for our seniors right here at SHS. During this transitional and emotional time, seniors may be thinking about their next chapter in life, whether it may be the military, developing a trade, taking a gap year, or heading off to college to continue their educational journey. Others may reflect upon the people who helped them arrive at where they are today. In addition, seniors may ruminate over the support from family and friends over the years; the good times and the bad. But nothing makes them think more about their younger years than the annual Senior Walk.

RAINBOW FOR EQUALITY. Anyone who has done much research about the LGBTQ+ community has most likely heard of the Westboro Baptist Church, described by the Washington Post as “cult-like” and “homophobic.

FASHION FOR THE CURE. On Thursday, April 22, Fashion For the Cure committee members, models, and designers gathered at the Dragonfly Foundation’s headquarters. They had a photo shoot in order to showcase the work of the student designers and celebrated surpassing this year’s fundraising goal, donating over $26,000 to the Dragonfly Foundation. Despite not being able to have a fashion show due to the pandemic, the FFTC committee found creative ways to raise money for the organization. “It’s definitely far from what I expected for my final year with Fashion For the Cure but I am so grateful I still had the opportunity to work with some of the most kind, inspiring, and creative girls to support the kids at Dragonfly,” said Grace Zhang, 12, co-chair of the FFTC committee.

LEADING LADY. Her second leading role in her SHS theatre career, junior Payton Hines played the quirky and romantic Juliet, her friendship with Romeo actor Jake Jervis coming in handy as they told a tale of love, woe, and unexpected happiness. Hines has expressed her sadness about how the arts have been severely disadvantaged during the pandemic, but is thrilled to be back on stage. “We are all just so extremely excited to be performing again with the energy of the audience, the lights, and the physical community for being together. While this year looks different and we have faced a new set of challenges, we are just so grateful to be back doing what we love,” Hines said.
