MORGAN. “I cut my hair because last year, my childhood friend Patrick Battle lost his life to cancer. He was 17 years old with so many unfulfilled dreams and unlived adventures. Seeing him fight and miss out on life broke my heart…a battle that is all too common for many other pediatric cancer patients. Because of him, I was inspired to give back. I believe that no child or family should go through the painful war of cancer and so I felt like I could help by donating my hair.”
RACHEL. “A few years ago, my four year old cousin was diagnosed with stage 3 neuroblastoma cancer. When his hair started to fall out, it made him really insecure. The reason I chose to cut 20 inches of my hair was because it will help many others that are going through the same situation as my cousin. Overall it’s just hair and it will grow back.”
PIPPA. “I’ve had long hair my whole life, so I’m really grateful for this experience. While I could have just cut my hair elsewhere, doing it at school, surrounded by my friends, and doing it for The Dragonfly Foundation, made the experience much more memorable.”

CAMRYN. “When I first decided that I wanted to shave my head, everyone tried to steer me away from the idea. However, I always go my own way. I think it’s important to prove that the length of your hair does not determine your femininity. Cancer patients have no option in shaving their heads; therefore, there’s no point in alienating women with buzz cuts. It’s just hair.”
SHOSHI. “I shaved my head for the second year in a row because I want to be an ally to the girls dealing with cancer by showing them that girls with little to no hair are still beautiful too.”
PRESTON. “Last year, when I was a freshman, I saw this event happen for the first time and I knew I wanted to participate in it. By shaving my head, I hope I’ve also inspired others to shave their heads too so that we can continue to spread awareness.”
PATRICK&CLAY. The idea for shaving their heads stemmed from a recent fundraiser. “Since we achieved our goal of selling 100 shirts in one week, we followed through by shaving our heads,” said Clay Steinbrink, pictured on the right. “It was a super fun experience because I did it with fantastic people. I also chose to shave my head to raise money for an important cause,” said Patrick Thompson, pictured on the left.
