  • WEARING A MASK. This new emoji relates to quite a few people. It depicts how while many people appear to be smiling, but inside, they are really hurting. While it may be used as more a joke, the deeper meaning of this emoji makes it a nice addition to Apple products.

  • PINCHED FINGERS. According to Dianne Hales, this hand gesture translated from Italian means, “‘Ma che vuoi?’ (‘What do you really want? What do you mean?’).” It would be a fun twist for the future to have some gestures from other cultures and countries as part of the wide array of emojis available to users.

  • PINATA. This emoji can be used for a variety of purposes, mostly for celebrations or other occasions worth throwing a party about. A new addition to the other party emojis, this one will be a good substitute for the confetti. According to Cincy Cinco, “The origin of the piñata is thought to date back over 700 years ago to Asia. Marco Polo discovered the Chinese fashioning figures of cows, oxen or even buffaloes, covering them with colored paper and adorning them with harnesses and trappings to greet the New Year.”

  • SPY. This emoji is probably the most unique out of the list. It can be used in a variety of ways and is a nice addition. Freshman Nabiha Alam said, “It looks like a spy. I would use this when I’m being mischievous or secretive.”

  • EQUALITY. This emoji helps display the new vision that emojis have about equal representation of cultures, races, genders, etc. Freshman Olivia Severtson said said, “I think that there should be more representation in emojis and I’m glad this emoji is the next step. I like that it shows that men are nurturing and loving.”
