Walking History
Are you the person to wear the cleanest, newest, and most popular kicks? Or are you the person to wear the same dusty shoes since 7th grade? No matter if you wear high-tops, low-tops, tall socks, no socks, a shoe that will forever hold a tight grip on everyone’s heart is the original Chuck Taylor All stars. These fan-favorite kicks have taken generations by storm with their unique shoes. These shoes have become a staple in people’s wardrobes since 1917. Since then, the shoes have stayed the same but have evolved with many styles and prints. During 2020, the converse hype went away for a year and a half because of the new Nike Air Force 1 during their popularity converse lost a lot of its hype but, regained it in the upcoming years. In 1917 they released the shoes to the public and a basketball player named Charles “Chuck” Taylor started becoming a salesman for the shoes in 1921. Within a year they redesigned the basketball shoe because of this, which led to the nickname “Chuck Taylors” that we all love today. The Converse had become the ideal athletic shoe, to 30 years of being the designated olympic shoe, to even being the official shoe for the U.S. military in World War II. In later years the All-Star shoes took a shift to more casual shoes, the shoes were not only known for their athletic wear but officially a cultural icon of the people. The love for the shoes grew as the colors and designs developed from the classic black and white (classics). In the 1970s, the shoes hit a brick wall when other shoes came out that were better for your foot, within a blink of an eye they shot back up due to the famous artist, musicians, and actors sporting the shoe, such as Elvis Presley, and Michael J. Fox. These cheap sneakers had become even more of a staple to the American style. Leading everyone to shock Nike bought the Converse business because of failing and leading to bankruptcy. Present-day converse continues to stay popular with their high and low tops, they even designed shoes based on famous people like Andy Warhol in 2015. This shoe’s history and legacy have truly impacted pop culture and style within the last 100 years. So next time you walk around the community look down and see how many people are wearing the historical shoe.
