Through Feb. 14 to Feb. 15, the swim team competed in the district swim meet. The boys and girls were separate and they were split into two divisions: one and two.
The top two fastest swimmers in each event were automatic qualifiers for the state competition.
“I had a good time at districts. Our team did really well. I like that a lot of teams got to compete together in one place,” said Jory Gould, 10.
The next meet is the state competition in Canton, Ohio. A few freshmen have worked hard enough to make it into the state relays.
“I am very honored to have made it to state as a freshman. I have tried my best all season to help make the relay to state,” said Lily Retford, 9.
The boy’s team has made state in the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay. Mark Hancher, 11, made it in the 100 fly and the 100 freestyle as an individual event.
The girl’s team has made state in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Cara Norris, 11, made it in the 100 fly and the 200 freestyle as an individual event.
“I think the meet was pretty successful overall and it was a good conclusion to a good season for those not going to state,” said Priscilla Wu, 10.
Before districts, there were several big meets. The first one was the GMC tournament, hosted at Mason High School. Following GMC’s was the sectional meet also at Mason.
Overall, SHS had a great swimming season with many swimmers achieving lifetime bests.
