This group recently completed performing at the State orchestra adjudicated event at Kettering, Ohio on Friday, Feb. 28.
The three pieces they competed were
- “Short Overture”
- “Overture to the wind”
- “The Paganini Variations”
“Short Overture is my favorite piece because it has lots of energy,” said Michelle Sidique,9.
The competition also included a sight reading section in which one judge rated all the orchestras present on how well they played the same piece for the first time.
After completing all of the pieces and the sight-reading the whole orchestra waited to receive there rating.
The orchestra received a superior rating; to achieve this two out of the four judges must give the orchestra a superior.
The SHS orchestra received a superior from all four judges which is considered a large accomplishment.
“Getting a superior rating made driving there worth it,” said Athulya Murali,9.
There is only one more performance left the orchestra this year on May 19. For more information on the SHS orchestra contact samerllid@sycmorecommunityschools.org.
