Varsity Tennis aces Cleveland

The Varsity Gold team defeated St. Ignatius, Hudson, and Copley on their trip up to Cleveland over spring break. They won each match in convincing fashion, and will immediately take on Fairfield, Mason, and Upper Arlington during the second week of the season. “We now know that we can compete and win against teams from all over Ohio,” said Alex Taylor, 10. Instead of traveling to Europe or resting on the beach, the Varsity Gold tennis team stayed home over spring break. They traveled to the Cleveland area to open the season, playing one scrimmage and two regular season matches.

“I would have loved to go on a vacation, but spending time with my teammates was just as good of a time,” said Deepak Indrakanti, 11.

The trip turned out to be very successful, as the team posted three convincing wins with no losses. They even defeated last year’s state runner up.

“Wins against St. Ignatius, Hudson, and Copley were huge for our confidence. We now know that we can compete and win against teams from all over Ohio,” said Alex Taylor, 10.

Even though they started off the season strong in the first week, they are focused and ready for the second week, where they will take on Greater Miami Conference (GMC) conference foes Fairfield and Mason, and last year’s state champion, Upper Arlington.

“We are really pumped for our upcoming matches this week. At the beginning of each season, Mason and Upper Arlington are always highlighted on our schedule because they have a ton of depth in their lineup,” said Aditya Venkitarama, 11.
