After three days of learning the dance and one day of tryouts, the SHS dance team has seven new members alongside their new coach.
The tryouts on April 24 cut none of the 14 trying out.
Only seven of the 19 from the 2013-2014season, are part of the now 14 dancer team for the 2014-2015school year. Three of those seven will be seniors in the fall.
“I’m going to rely heavily on those seven girls to be leaders. They need to show the new girls what it is to be a Flyerette, how to prepare during practice and beyond,” said Brittany Grecco, the Flyerettes new coach.
Grecco is taking over for her sister Ashley McNamara after five years as coach.
The new team will have:
- Two future freshman
- Eight future sophomores
- One future junior
- Three future seniors
“We had 19 last year, 14 are not a huge drop-off but still something. We also lost the leadership of our 12 seniors. The other two seniors and I have to make up for that,” said Emily Spry, 11.
The seven remaining Flyerettes used different tactics to get students to join for example:
- A video
- Flyers
- Spreading the word
“I think we could have done more to promote ourselves but to get seven more teammates is impressive,” said Calista Robbins, 10.
