During the offseason swimmers often compete with their club team, there are three main club teams in the Cincinnati area; Cincinnati Marlins, YMCA and Cincinnati Aquatic Club.
While in high school season, swimmers tend to practice and compete with their high school and use their club team as an off season training tool to remain in shape and competitive.
“I enjoy high school season a lot because of the atmosphere that our team creates, club is fun but the team mentality is not as present at practice or at meets,” said Rick Niu, 11.
While the high school season is just three months long, club teams swim all throughout the year with small breaks in-between seasons.
“Club swimming is just a little bit long for my liking, I think that is another reason I enjoy the high school swimming more,” said Niu.
During the summer, club teams also compete in a 50 meter pool whereas in high school season they compete in a 25 yard pool.
“Even though the events are the same, I prefer swimming in a long course pool because there are less turns and my turns are not the best,” said Christopher Seger, 10.
When the high school pool closes swimmers are still competing with their club teams showing their dedication to the sport.
