Local outreach projects cross the Greater Cincinnati area, whose goals are to get kids exposed to outdoor activity in nature. Lack of outdoor activity is a big issue for kids, and many do not realize the benefits that outdoor activity does entail.
“I love the outdoors, and it is so sad to me that so many kids do not get to experience its wonders,” said Amara Clough, 10.
Outdoor activity brings kids together from different areas. It crosses school and community boundaries, and fosters a unique type of growth. Unlike traditional sports, there is no fierce competition. Kids can stay active while both enjoying nature and cooperating with each other.
Get Out Cincinnati is a community organization doing just this. It was founded by Isaac Goldstein and he and six other students at SHS are working to put on their inaugural event, which will take place on May 31 at Nisbet Park in Loveland. This event is free of cost and will last from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
“Working on creating this event has been a great experience. We went through all of the steps, just like any other organization would. I hope we are able to touch the lives of the kids that come and make a difference,” said Allison Rogge, 11.
This event will expose kids to outdoor activity in nature through an introduction to kayaking, mountain biking, and hiking. Volunteers will come together to expose 3rd – 8th grade students from different schools in the Greater Cincinnati area.
“We have been working very hard to make this event possible. I am on the hiking team and am excited to teach younger kids about the wonderful qualities that nature holds,” said Clough.
