As temperatures cool down, runners are hoping to heat up in the postseason. The girls cross country team’s main season goal is to advance to Regional’s for the fourth year in a row, which would be a school record.

“Postseason is what separates the women from the girls,” said Monica Sandoval, 12.

The first official postseason meet is on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Voice of America park. There, all runners will race in either the Varsity or JV race, competing with schools in the Greater Miami Conference (GMC).

Also, the team will celebrate Senior Night at the race since it is the majority of the team’s last race. Only the top seven will continue on to District’s.

“I’ve waited four years for my Senior Night, or morning in this case, so I’m really hoping to finish my season and career strong and end on a high note,” said Sarah Frey, 12.

Held the Saturday after GMC’s is District’s, also located in Voice of America park. The top seven runners will run in the Varsity race, and the rest of the team will be there to cheer them on from the sides.

However, in order to qualify for the next meet, Regional’s, the team will need to place in the top four of their race. The race is comprised of 15 teams, including top competitors such as Mason, Mercy, and Loveland.

“We’ve worked so hard starting in the summer months and it all comes down to these last few meets,” said Julia Mattis, 11.
