Academic achievers honored at first home football game

Caleb Main, 12 and Jacob Wang, 12 were awarded the Academic Achievement Award (AAA) during the halftime of the Sycamore versus Ryle football game on Sept. 5. The SHS PTO is awarding the AAA every week and announcing the winners during the halftime of each homecoming game. According to the official press release, “These students embody the academic excellence for which Sycamore stands.”

Both Main and Wang were recognized for scoring a perfect 36 on the ACT.

Main has earned a cumulative GPA of 4.172. He is a member of the Marching Band and the Sycamore Winds. He plays the French horn and is squad leader. Main enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee and has attained the distinction of being an Eagle Scout. His college choice is undecided but he wishes to pursue a Doctorate in electrical engineering.

Wang holds a cumulative GPA of 4.466.  An avid tennis player, he has been a member of the Sycamore doubles and singles teams for four years.  Having played the violin for 11 years, Wang performs with the school’s string orchestra.  A member of the Math Club and the Science Bowl, he has been the recipient of the class Math Medallion every year. Wang is applying to MIT, Stanford, California Tech, Case Western, University of Illinois and Rice, and plans to major in Engineering.
