Senior and captain Jennifer Weber steps out to look for an open pass. As well as playing water polo, Weber competes with the bowling team at SHS. She also plays club water polo for Moose Water Polo.

A common tradition among sports teams at SHS is to have a ceremony on the night of their last home game for all of the seniors. Both the Boys and the Girls Water Polo teams combined will be graduating 15 seniors.

The girl seniors are:

  • Charlotte Aguilar

  • Anu Roy-Chaudhury

  • Morgan Malof

  • Lena Miles

  • Jennifer Weber

  • Elly Willis

“It’s a lot more pressure being a senior because there are a lot of expectations that people have for you. Also people on the team look up to you for advice and tips on how to play better,” Malof, said.

The boy seniors are:

  • Mark Hancher

  • John Heldman

  • Adam Ioas

  • Greyson Marks

  • Ethan May

  • Rick Niu

  • Cole Schaefer

  • Jorge Vineles

  • Allan Zou

Senior night is on Oct. 1 and will begin at 6:00 p.m. It is the last home game of the season and therefore the seniors’ final home game ever. Each of the seniors will be acknowledged and will walk down the pool with their parents.

The teams will be playing Mason High School. The following week they will play Milford at Milford’s Senior Night on Oct. 7 and the next day they will travel to Columbus to compete against Upper Arlington on their senior night.

There are three weeks left in the season for the girls before the state tournament and four for the boys. The girls team is currently ranked fourth, however they can move up in the rankings if they win the rest of their games this season.

“We have to win out the rest of the season against the three teams who are ranked ahead of us so that we have a better seed going into the state tournament. It will also give us a mental boost to improve how we play in the games,” junior Hannah Schwegmann, said.

The Boys team is ranked seventh.  They will also have to win the majority of their games for the rest of the season in order to move up in the rankings.
