Junior Alexandra Abele of the Varsity A Tennis Team qualified for the state singles tournament in Columbus, OH.  To qualify for the tournament, a player must make it to the semifinals of his or her district draw.

On Oct. 11, Abele lost the semifinal match, but was able to place third in the draw by winning her next match.

“I’m really excited about qualifying for state and looking forward to it,” Abele said.

Last year, Abele and teammate junior Maggie Skwara competed in the state doubles tournament and made it all the way to the finals, where they lost to Alle and Anna Sanford.

“I’ll take it one match at a time and try to focus on winning the match that I am playing,” Abele said.

Abele and her tennis team will be driving to Columbus on Oct. 16.  Abele will play her first match on Oct. 17 at the Ohio State University.
