On Fri., Oct.10, The University of Cincinnati (UC) president Santa Ono came to SHS to speak, and publicize UC, and most importantly, to play Ping Pong with the students of SHS.

At each lunch, Ono spoke about the opportunities UC had to offer. He then threw UC shirts into the crowd, and got up on stage to play Ping Pong against the students. Partnering with the new Ping Pong Club, a Ping Pong spirit competition was organized. Ono played against two students from each class. If they won, they gained a spirit point for their class. Sophomore and co-president of the SHS Ping Pong Club William Coleman interviewed Ono about the day’s events:

Q: “Why is recruiting SHS students so important to you?”

A: “SHS is one of the great high schools in the nation and we are very happy with the caliber of the graduates from there. Because of this, we (UC) want to have good relations with the school, and back to them. I love coming to Sycamore and having the students meet me and build relationships with our school.”

Q: “Why are you the best university president at Ping Pong?”

A: “Well I don’t know if I am the best president at Ping Pong, but your principal (Doug Mader) thinks I would be one of the best in the club!”
