Abele practices her serve during a match. A serve one of the most important aspects of a player’s game. Alexa puts a lot of time into perfecting her serve.

Alexa Abele, junior,  of the Varsity A tennis team takes third place at the individual state singles tournament on October 18.

In order for Abele to make it this far, she first had to get through to the semi- finals of sectionals and then districts.  Abele was the only one on her team to qualify for the state tournament.

“We’re all really happy for Alexa about making it to state, but hopefully we’ll be putting more through next year” teammate Amanda Peck said.

At the state tournament there are four qualifiers from each district, making a total of 16 participants.

In the semifinals, Abele lost to senior Cassidy Hicks from Hamilton 6-2, 6-4.  Then, Abele beat Tessa Hill from Massillon Jackson for third place 6-0, 7-6 (8-6).

“I am happy to place third and can’t wait to try to win it next year” Abele said.

While Abele is content with where she ended the tournament, she still won’t be satisfied until she wins, which she is planning on doing next year.
