The months of endless practices, exhilarating games, and challenging workouts in the gym are only days away for the girls’ basketball team.

With the official start of the season in Nov., the basketball program has been preparing for the start of the season with months of conditioning.

“It’s senior year and I just want to go out with a bang. I feel like it’s all or nothing this year,” senior captain Nancie Hunter said. “Our team is closer than ever before on as well as off the court which makes even the most gruesome days to come worth it.”

The girls and boys basketball programs conditioned together this pre-season, in an effort to provide team unity and support.

Tryouts for the team begin on Friday, Oct. 31 after school, and are open to all students.

“I’ve been anticipating my senior year since I was a freshman,” senior captain Erin Kroell said. “I’m ready to give it everything; I have nothing to lose.”

This year, there is a small change in the girls’ basketball team setup.

“The Greater Miami Conference (GMC) has gone to only JV-A and JV-B teams, eliminating the title of the freshman team,” Varsity head coach Derek Christerson said.

The reasoning behind these changes is still unclear, but tryouts will still proceed as normal here at SHS.
