Layups For Lauren rolled through SHS to help spread awareness for Lauren Hill and brain tumors and cancer. Hill received an honorary Doctor of Human Letters degree at a recent game. She continues to help spread awareness of her condition to many people around the United States.

One month ago, the Layups 4 Lauren program made its way through SHS, and left an impact on many students.

“It was really special to help out her fund. I know that I did a good thing by donating,” senior Adam Dock said.

Her story about having a dream to play college basketball, even though she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, came true when she stepped on the court at Xavier’s Cintas Center in front of a sold out crowd.

Now a freshman at Mount St. Joseph University, Lauren Hill was presented with an honorary Doctor of Human Letters degree from her college to go along with her titles of:

  • College student
  • College basketball player
  • Childhood Cancer advocate

Also, The Cincinnati USA Convention and Visitors Bureau named her the 2014 Spirit of Cincinnati USA Ambassador. She was presented with this prestigious award at a Mount Saint Joseph University women’s basketball home game.

Her brain cancer is starting to take over According to her mother, Lisa Hill, it takes her longer to get things done. It takes an hour for her to do simple things such as brush her teeth, wash her face, adjust oxygen, and set up the IV medications.
