Super Bowl ads: The good, the sad, and the ugly

In a recent study it was revealed that only 47% of people watch the Super Bowl for the game itself. 25.8% of people watch just for the commercials alone. With the Super Bowl constantly being the most watched event of the year, this begs the question of what really draws in the viewers. Photo courtesy of Ben Cohen.

Commercials tend to be the most exciting part of the Super Bowl. Unlike two opposing teams in the game, commercials can be universally acclaimed or hated.

The ads, much like the game itself, were rather lame. Still there were a few that stood out as being funny, sad, or just plain bad.

Funniest: Doritos Time Machine

The Doritos’ commercials almost always end up having the funniest ads. This year was no exception.  What makes them, specifically this one, is that it takes such a stupid and simplistic idea and turns it into something hilarious. Fun fact: the commercial was shot by an amateur for a mere $300.

Biggest Tear-Jerker: Puppy Love

The commercial is really just a Budweiser ad about an adorable relationship between a dog and horse. Does it make sense? Not really. But it is still very sweet and memorable.

Worst: Bodybuilder

So I am still not really sure what Go Daddy is and this ad does not make it any clearer. I mean their Super Bowl ads have always been weird, but this one especially.

In my free time I love to watch T.V. and movies, my favorite shows being “American Horror Story” and “Hannibal” and my favorite movie being “The Lion King.” This love of theater and media has assimilated well into my writing for A&E. Now when my parents yell at me for staring at my laptop watching Netflix for over two hours, I can just say it is part of my job. I also run the blog "The Must List" with Kathryn Tenbarge.
