No dirt leads to players worry

With no dirt it is hard for the softball team to play. Dirt may not seem important to some sports, but when fielding a ball it is very important to have a flat surface. Without dirt the field is not flat. Photo courtesy of MCT photo.

Softball has a field day every year. On this day the team is trying to get the field ready for playing. Some of the things they do are:

  • Clean up trash around the field
  • Get ride of leaves and rocks around the field
  • Get the tarp ready to put on the field
  • Organize the storage area behind the dugout
  • Put new dirt on the field

All these things must be done to be ready to play games. But this year something was different, there was no dirt. Leaving the field hard and rocky.

“When Coach Melvin told me to help one of the catchers block balls on the field she called it the concrete,” said Liz Izworski, 9.

The field is so rocky that it may be dangerous for players when they run because some one could easily trip on a rock while running the basses or fielding a ball.

“I do not know why we are not getting dirt this year, our coach told the athletic director we need new dirt,” said Savanna Asbroke, 10.

No one knows why the softball team will not be getting dirt but everyone wants to know.

About the Contributor
Hannah Frey, Leaflet Editor in Chief
My name is Hannah Frey and this is my fourth year being a part of the Leaf staff. I joined the Leaf because I wanted to expand my involvement in the SHS community and I wanted to learn more about graphic design. I am passionate about social equality and the social injustices that occur in our affluent society. Being in this class has helped me to see that I want to work for a nonprofit organization and help solve these problems. I am currently the editor and chief of the Leaflet, which is our online, design-based magazine. Every issue, I pick a new topic to be covered. Using design to cover these issues attracts another audience for the Leaf and makes it entertaining to have an in-depth look about a topic. Journalism has helped shape the person I am today, and it will help me excel in my desired field of work.
