‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ makes for best superhero movie since ‘The Dark Knight’

I personally have never been a huge fan of Marvel movies. They have always seemed to try and throw in unnecessary humor and pop culture references. I did enjoy “The Avengers,” but besides that, truly good superhero movies are far and few.

The first “Captain America” is one of the brighter spots on Marvel’s film resume, but it was still nothing too memorable.  This is why the new “Captain America” movie surprised me.

Picking up after the events in, well probably the most recent Marvel movie since they all intersect in some way, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” follows Steve Rogers, a.k.a Captain America, as he is hunted down by the now corrupt organization, S.H.I.E.L.D.

This leads to an array of explosions and near death experiences, but the most shocking thing is the amount of politics in the film. And while I won’t go into details, so as not to spoil the film, let’s just say the Nazis are involved.

Another bright spot in the film is the, previously mentioned, way that Marvel’s film storylines connect with each other. This movie contains many references to other Avengers, though none show up.

“Captain America” even offers two of Marvel’s, now infamous, post credit scenes.  One sets up events for “The Avengers 2,” with a release date of May 1, 2015, the other sets up events for the next “Captain America” film, with a release date of May 6th, 2016.

And if Marvel’s most recent outing is any indication, these films will be truly epic.

In my free time I love to watch T.V. and movies, my favorite shows being “American Horror Story” and “Hannibal” and my favorite movie being “The Lion King.” This love of theater and media has assimilated well into my writing for A&E. Now when my parents yell at me for staring at my laptop watching Netflix for over two hours, I can just say it is part of my job. I also run the blog "The Must List" with Kathryn Tenbarge.
