The Leaf

Jack Brownlee
Hello there, my name is Jack Brownlee and this is my first year as a Staff Writer on the Leaf.  I am currently a junior at Sycamore high school. I decided to join the Leaf because it seemed like a great opportunity for me to improve my skills as a writer and to cover topics that I am passionate about.  One thing I am extremely passionate about is music, which I love to think about critically.  I love a wide variety of genres, from hip-hop to jazz to punk, and I love to actively seek out and listen to new types of music.  Another one of my favorite hobbies is fashion.  I have been taking sewing classes at Sycamore for a year now, and although I still have lots of room to grow both in skills and creativity, I love to create and bring to life my ideas for projects. My objective while designing is to make something that I would want to wear, personally.  Along with creating, I love to consume fashion content, from runway shows to streetwear, and everything in between.  Outside of school hours, I play on the Academic Quiz Team and the Ultimate Frisbee team and I am a member of the Ski Club. In addition, I serve on my temple’s youth group board, which has not only given me the chance to meet new people, but also has allowed me to become more involved with my Jewish community through social action.  This is something that I find very important, as repairing the world is an important part of Judaism, and even in the context of small, local, events I can make a difference.  Overall, I am excited to be a part of the Leaf this year, and look forward to a great year!
