  • Sophomore Hannah Young and freshman Riley Kurtz are preparing for a kick. By doing this the dancers gain momentum and their kick will be higher. Kicks are one way to show a dancer’s flexibility. All photos courtesy of McDaniel’s Photography.

  • Senior Kathryn Tenbarge, sophomore Michelle Siddiqui and freshman Gabrielle Davis are getting ready for a roll on the floor. The team started working on the dance in Aug. It was similar to the routine they did at the Variety Show last month.

  • In the middle of the routine senior Leah Brod, junior Calista Robbins, sophomore Lauren Kurtzer and freshman Riley Kurtz are doing a kick ripple. This movement shows their ability to stay on time with the music and with each other. “We practiced this section often because it was one that if we didn’t get the counts right then it just looked off,” Robbins said.

  • The team consists of one member who is both a Flyerette and a football season cheerleader. Sophomore Hannah Young (shown with a pink bow in her hair) dances and cheers. “I think I am different from everyone else on the dance team and the cheer team because I have both teams of friends and both teams to learn routines for and show up for practice for but I love them both. People do often times ask me which one I prefer but that’s almost not a fair question because they are similar in ways but at the same time they are very different,” Young said.

  • The Flyerettes have performed three times this year: at the pep rally, Variety Show, and Football Game. “I think we did our best performance at the pep rally because we were in front of the whole student body and we knew that we had to bring it,” sophomore Maliha Mostoi said. The first basketball game is on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Photo courtesy of McDaniel’s Photography.
