  • The team is beginning the jazz section of their routine. This dance had first a jazz, hip-hop, pom, and then another jazz section. Each change in style included a new formation.

  • The girls are prepping to do a small jump. This jump is in the first jazz section of the routine. During this jump, they went diagonally to the right, touching their toes.

  • The Flyerettes are in the pom part of their dance. This team consists of six returning girls, and seven new girls. In order to bond and become a closer team, they had a sleepover on Sept. 12 to 13 and did activities to become a stronger team.

  • Since this is the first performance of the year, it was the first dance for the two freshmen: Riley Kurtz and Gabrielle Davis. “Our first performance was breathtaking because there were so many people. Even though there were people that would make fun of us, we have to go out with a smile and show that we know what we are doing,” Davis said

  • As it being the first performance of the school year, it was the last first performance for the three seniors: Kathryn Tenbarge, Leah Brod, and Emily Spry. “It was really awesome and sad to realize that it was my last first performance, and my last Variety Show. I think this performance was a great start to the beginning of the season,” Spry said.

  • The Flyerettes are doing a ripple in the hip-hop part of their performance. In preparing for this show, they worked on making sure each dancer went on the right count. They worked on the counts by counting to the beat in their head.

  • The group is holding for two counts in their hip-hop part of the dance. One of the main aspects of a performance is a dancer’s facials. To make sure each performer has facials, the team practices in a room with a mirror and uses their facials in practice.

  • The team is in a pyramid formation in the hip-hop part of their routine. The team learned this dance during Universal Dance Association camp at Miami University from Aug. 2 to 5. Each dancer learned three dances and performed all three to be rewarded a blue, red, or white, with blue being the best.

  • The girls are doing a toe touch. The team worked hard on their toe touches and other techniques such as leaps and piourettes. Technique is important since in competition it is heavily graded.
