Women’s History Month- Lilly Ledbetter

Lilly Ledbetter was an employee at Goodyear Tire & Rubber for 19 years, before discovering that she made less money than her male counterparts doing the same job through an anonymous note. She faced sexual harassment and prejudice from her boss and co-workers. Ledbetter filed a lawsuit against the company, which made its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. She eventually lost; the Supreme Court said that she had missed the statute of limitations. Finally, in 2009, President Barack Obama signed the “Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act” which was the first bill signed into a law by Obama since he came into office.
