Chasing success one meet at a time
April 24, 2015
Once again showing off their drive to win, both girls and boys track teams rein victorious at the Anderson Invitational on Thursday, April 23rd. The athletes participated in this two day meet entailing preliminaries for short events and then finals and also a bonus event that was the 3,000 steeple chase.
The steeplechase is an event usually ran in college and is not an official high school race. For sycamore, Brothers Andrew Schranz, freshman and Will Schranz, senior, represented the team in this tricky distance event. The race included both distance as well as obstacles including one wooden hurdle that stood in front of a two foot deep pool of water that the runners had the run through.
“It was so cool to watch the steeple chase, all the teams gathered together by the water pit to watch because none of us have ever seen it before. The kid in last place was so funny and smiled the whole time, also on the fifth lap he took off his shoes and ran the rest in his socks for some reason,” senior Lisa Ruffin said.
For the team the meet at Anderson not only was a great victory, but also a bonding experience where they all got together to watch something new and different. With it still being the beginning of the season, great promise for the future is anticipated.
“This season is starting out really well and this was definitely a win to boost our confidence as a team,” said sophomore Tori Bell.
