  Hi, my name is Lauren Shassere and this is my fourth and final year as part of the Sycamore Leaf Family. Being spotlight chief for this amazing award winning news magazine has taught me and continues to teach me so much about hard work and working collaboratively with others. Being Spotlight chief definitely takes me out of my comfort zone sometimes, as I have to go out in search of people's stories whom I don't know. I am a year- round athlete so writing sports articles about events I was passionate about and people whom I knew was always my go-to in years past. Putting myself in this new position took a lot of courage on my part and I could not be happier with my decision. Now I love meeting new people,hearing their stories and more than anything giving them the opportunity to be recognized. The Leaf, Spotlight and the sycamore students I meet through it have all contributed to my growth as both a writer and a person. Go Aves!

Prom was on the 16th of May at the Oasis Country club from the hours of 8:30pm when the doors open until 11:30 when it ended. The energy was very high with Junior and Senior classes showing off their dance moves.

The 100 hurdles is a sprint event in which the athletes must clear over 10 hurdles before crossing the finish line. There is only one other hurdle event which is more of a middle distance event; the 3oo hurdles. For those who find eating healthy or on a budget difficult, it is good to keep in mind that its okay to enjoy yourself every now and then as long as it is in moderation. Here a student shows her bowl of fruit accompanied with a jar of Nutella. Nutella is not necessarily the healthiest or cheapest of choices but she only uses a small amount to put on top of her banana slices.

Crayons to Computers Club raises money that then goes over to the actual Crayons warehouse and is used to buy supplies such as back packs, binders, markers, ect, to provide on their shelves. Here teachers from underprivileged schools can pick up class room items for free.

She stays strong enough for important moments like this by conditioning herself in the winter, awaiting her “Moose league” in the spring. “I swim in the winter and also run to stay in shape and keep up with my skills for spring, summer and fall water polo seasons,” said Schwegmann.

Kaiser flexes on vacation with her older brother/ inspiration for getting into fitness. “Well at first I started because I really look to my older brother as a role model and for the past 6 years he's been building his physique and body building, so I wanted to start lifting and getting stronger too about a year ago. So I played around with it and it became something I like. Then my brother came up with a diet plan for me and explained the macros, all the hard work is really in the kitchen, what you eat is most important. I fell in love with the results I was getting; lost 60 pounds and looking good motivated me to look great. I kept going. Every day is another day to be better than you were the day before. Every day I want to be better and stronger,” said Kaiser.

This swimmer is diving off the block at the start of the 200 I.M. The beginning of the race is just as important as the middle or end it could “make you or break you”. Every second counts so swimmers spend much of their time perfecting this ever so crucial part of the race.
