Boys & Girls Track

Track competitions are scored based on a points system earned by place. Points are earned for the amount of people that passed each runner, and the team with the least points total is the champion. Some of the team’s top placing events include the 3200 meter, the 4×800 meter relay, high jump, the 4×100 meter relay, and the pole vault. Photo courtesy of @RunningAves on twitter.

The Varsity track team competed in the Miamisburg Invitational on Fri. April 17.  The boys team finished first place out of 17, and the girls earned sixth place out of 16. This makes the boys team the first champions of the new meet and in future years they must defend this title.

“Aviators fly high over the Miamisburg Invitational. Men were Champions/Ladies finished with a strong 6th out of 16,” head coach Hank Ray tweeted.

The team competed against 17 other teams, including Alter (only boys), CJ, Fairmont, Fenwick, Hamilton, Miamisburg, Middletown, Northmont, Olentangy Orange, Ponitz, Reynoldsburg, Springboro, Thurgood Marshall, Troy, Walnut Hills, Westerville Central and Xenia.

“The meet went really well.  Everyone did really well and we accomplished a lot,” freshman Jodie Lawson said.

This was the first time the team competed at the Miamisburg Invitational, also known as the “Bergdoll/Fraley” Invitational.  It is named after John Bergdoll and Ralph Fraley, both of whom were former coaches/teachers that brought the Miamisburg Vikings much success in track and cross country.

“I would rate the effort [at Miamisburg] an A+.  There were lots of personal season and lifetime bests,” distance coach Steve Nester said.
