Former child star and now singer and actress Selena Gomez explained that her break from Hollywood was caused by treatment for the autoimmune disease called lupus.

Gomez said to CNN, “I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about.

The actress and singer previously said she went to rehab, but she was actually receiving chemotherapy.

The disease lupus occurs when the immune system attacks the body’s tissues and thus causes inflammation, pain, damage, and swelling. A person with lupus experiences fatigue, joint pain, fever, and a rash, according to WebMD.

Fans were shocked.

Sophomore Taylor Kyle said, “I was surprised when she told the news that she had lupus. I had no idea she was going through such a hard time.”

Besides being shocked, other fans at SHS were very supportive of her.

Sophomore Natasha Baker said, “for what she’s going through, she’s doing great. I wish the best for her- she’s amazing and talented.

Gomez is now promoting her new album titled “Revival”, featuring the hit songs “Good for You,” and “Same Old Love.” Both songs appeared on the Billboard’s Hit 100 list.
