Stepping Out Club is having a Halloween party on Thursday, Oct. 31 in Room 254 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This club partners disabled students to make new friends outside of the classroom and have fun.
“It is a great way for them to be a kid,” said Mrs. Emily Conaster, Academic Assistant and former advisor of the club.
The meeting on Thursday is celebrating Halloween with lively activities.
“We have planned a lot of different things,” said Ms. Schroeder, Special Education Teacher. “There will be three rotating groups, a costume party and trick-or-treating.”
At the party there will be:
- Eating
- Decorating bags
- Dance party
- Relay made by student board
- Costume contest
- Trick-or-treating in the commons
“I am most excited for dress up and trick-or-treating since I am not trick-or-treating in my neighborhood,” said Natalie Kerr, 9.
The beginning of the party will be three rotating groups. They will be:
- Eating and decorating bags
- Dancing
- Relay
“We tried trick-or-treating around the whole school but it was too chaotic so we decided to have it in the commons,” said Schroeder. “I have invited a lot of teachers to pass out candy. Hopefully some will come.”
There is a Stepping Out board of upperclassmen of ten students. Half of the students on the board are partners and the other half are disabled. They are elected by the Stepping Out Club at the beginning of each school year.
“Stepping Out Board meet once a month to plan the upcoming meeting,” said Schroeder. “We have two presidents, one abled; one disabled, two vice presidents and so on.”
For the Stepping Out board they know the work they have put into it and can enjoy the party knowing they made it happen.
