Lacrosse faces first defeat
Until recently, the SHS varsity lacrosse team has gone undefeated, winning 15 games in a row. On Fri., May 13, the team lost their first game against the first place Ohio seed, Upper Arlington. The final score was 9-14, with the Aviators on the losing end, however, they are still optimistic about the rest of their season.
Sophomore Meegan Gould said, “Even though we lost to UA on Friday, I still believe we can beat them later in the season.”
Gould believes this because the team was not necessarily at their strongest when they played.
Gould said, “We have a few players on our team who are still recovering from injuries, which definitely affected our play. We also did not necessarily play to the best of our ability.”
The team has struggled recently with putting forth their best effort.
Junior Christina Hanisch said, “We have a bad habit of playing at the level of our competition, which causes many of our final scores to be closer than they should be.”
Regardless of what past games have been like, the team is looking to refocus and concentrate on their postseason goals.
Hanisch said, “Losing to UA has definitely shown us that we need to keep practicing. Although we lost, I know we will be much more focused next time. I am excited for our future matchups with UA to display how much we have improved.”
The girls varsity lacrosse team is coached by Eddie Clark. Clark is an extremely well-known coach in the state of Ohio. He has led SHS lacrosse to three state championship titles.
