On October 22, Chicago Cubs beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 5-0 in game six of the League Champion Series. The Cubs won the series 4-2, winning the last two games. The celebration on the field was after a double play including shortstop Addison Russel, second baseman Ben Zorbist, and first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

Charlie Grimm, 1945 manager, led Chicago baseball (MLB) to the World Series of 1945, resulting in a loss to the Detroit Tigers. Since then, the Chicago Cubs have never reached the World Series until this 2016 season.

The Cubs won over the Brooklyn Dodgers with a record of 4-2. Joe Maddon, 2016 manager, is leading the Cubs to their first occurrence in the World Series in an attempt to break the Curse of the Goat.

The Curse of the Goat is a superstition created in 1945, in which Billy Sianis, owner of the Billy Goat tavern, was kicked out of Wrigley Field.

He was kicked out because the odor of his pet goat, Murphy, was troubling the fans.

“Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more,” said Sianis, according to CNN.

Many believe this to pertain to winning the World Series, while others believe it to winning another National League Pennant.

“I believe that the Cubs will break the curse this year, winning over the Cleveland Indians,” said Patrick Eigel, 10.

“I think that the Cubs will beat the Indians because they have had a great season so far,” said Gabe David, 10.

The Chicago Cubs record this year reached 103-58, the MLB’s highest record this 2016 season; the Cleveland Indians having the second highest record going 86-76.

That is right. The Cubs won 17 more full games than the Indians.

The first game of the World Series is Tues., Oct. 25, with the Chicago Cubs verses the Cleveland Indians, both having the top two records in the MLB for the 2016 season. Cubs fans will be seeking to break the Curse of the Billy Goat.
