  • WE THE PEOPLE. Created by Shepard Fairey, the same artist who created the “HOPE” posters, these posters popped up in every march. They depicted different minorities such as Muslims, Latinos, and African Americans. “After this divisive campaign season with it’s fierce policies and statements aimed at women and minority groups, it was important to show the world and our country that there are still so many citizens who care about protecting the rights of all people,” said Jacob Spiegel, 12.

  • LOVE. The origin of the march came from a Hawaii Facebook post. This sparked a movement for women and other minorities across the world. “The march wasn’t just for women’s issues but human issues,” said Mrs. Kat-Rakel Ferguson, art teacher.

  • DEMOCRACY. The marches, which occurred the day after the election although not anti-Trump marches, were arguable a result of this past election. Despite President Donald Trump’s initial tweet about the marches stirring up negative feelings he quickly retweeted in a more peaceful tone. “ Peaceful protest are the hallmark of our democracy. Even if I don’t agree, I recognize the right of the people to express their views,” said Trump.

  • POWER. Women marched with signs showing their occupations. This was done to combat certain people’s beliefs that women are not as intellectually capable as men. “People need to understand why women are marching by taking a closer look at why so many people feel threatened,” said Brooke Baker, 12.

  • CHANGE. By holding this sign which supports the people’s ability to affect change in their country, this woman reminds everyone that this country has a government which is “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” Furthermore the woman is promoting love of all people with her shirt which reads “Love trumps hate.” “I was marching for us as humans and the rights that we are all assured by this constitution,” said Mrs. Kat-Rakel Ferguson, art teacher.
