‘La La Land’ leads Oscar nominations

Hollywood awards season is in full swing, and the renowned ceremonies celebrate famed actors and actresses. The nominations for the 89th Academy Awards were announced Tues., Jan. 24, 2017.
Romantic musical “La La Land” earned 14 nominations, tying the record held by “All About Eve” and “Titanic.” The academy also broke records by nominating six black actors, moving past the #OscarSoWhite years.
“It is so gratifying to see such a diverse group of people be honored for their work and talent in such a competitive field,” said Anais Cabello, 12.
Diverse films such as “Moonlight,” “Fences,” and “Hidden Figures” will all be competing for best picture.
“La La Land” was nominated for best directing, best picture and best original screenplay. The stars of the film, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, are both up for best actor/actress.
“The Oscars are such a glamorous event with a congregation of the most talented people in Hollywood,” said Grace Deng, 9.
The popular old-Hollywood-style film made history at the Golden Globes, winning all seven of the awards it was nominated for.
