Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey was born in 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She grew up with divorced parents and lived in poverty during the early years of her life. She uses her experience from her childhood to tell people to “turn your wounds into wisdom.” At the age of 14 she moved to live with her father.
Later she went on to study journalism and media in college and get her first job as a news anchor. Over time, the channel realized that her emotional style was better geared for a daytime chat program and she was transferred. Later she began her own program: “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
She focuses her show towards self-improvement, spirituality, and self-help. Since then, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” has become the most successful and highly watched TV program. Winfrey is a powerful role model for women and the African- American community. She also is the richest self-made woman and was the world’s only African- American billionaire from 2004 to 2006. She is the first African- American woman to be a billionaire in history.
