Swimmers speed towards state

FLY. Noah Patterson, 10, swam individually in the 100 fly (shown) and the 200 freestyle. Though he did not qualify in his individual events, he will be swimming in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Hw and the rest of the team are happy with how they swam and are excited for state.

The men and women district meets were held on Sat., Feb. 18, at Miami University in Oxford. Sycamore saw excellent swims, and thirteen have qualified for state competition on Fri., Feb. 24, and Sat., Feb. 25.

Two of the womens’ relays have qualified: the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle. The 200 freestyle relay consisted of Anna Campbell, 10, Marissa Allen, 9, Hannah May, 12, and Isabelle Jiminez, 12. The members of the 400 freestyle relay were May, Jiminez, Elizabeth Van Den Brink, 10, and Campbell.

All three of the mens’ relays have qualified to swim at state. The 200 medley relay was composed of Jiho Choi, 12, Luke Tenbarge, 11, Noah Patterson, 10, and Alex Newberg, 11. Sammy Risma, 10, Matt Schuetz, 12, Newberg, and Elliot Carl, 10, made the 200 freestyle relay, and Schuetz, Carl, Patterson, and Risma swam the 400 freestyle relay.

Three swimmers also qualified to swim individually. May and Jiminez both qualified for the womens’ 100 freestyle. Risma qualified in both of his individual events, the mens’ 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
