INSPIRATION. Sonia Sotomayor was inspired to become a judge from the TV show Perry Mason. Growing up, Sotomayor was raised on a modest income. She was the eldest of two children.

Sonia Sotomayor was born on June 25, 1954 in New York City. Sotomayor grew up with her parents Juan and Celina Baez, and a younger brother.
At the young age of nine, Sotomayor’s father died from heart complications.
Later on in life, Sotomayor earned a B.A from Princeton University in 1976 and earned a J.D from Yale Law School.
Sotomayor was a U.S District Court Judge, nominated by President H.W Bush, and later a U.S Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
In 2009, Sotomayor was nominated by President Barack Obama to be a Supreme Court Justice, making Sotomayor the first ever Latina Supreme Court Justice.
So far, Sotomayor has been involved in two major court rulings, one being King v. Burwell, and the second being Obergefell v. Hodges.
