Variety Show wows audience

  • BRINGING CLASSIC BACK. Freshman Ella Yu performs a difficult piece titled “Paganini Etude No. 6 by Franz Liszt” in the Variety Show. Yu has been taking piano lessons for ten years and hope to continue throughout her high school years. She also participates in the orchestra and plays Violin. “I love playing piano as it allows me to explore the mindset and thoughts of the famous composers,” Yu said.

  • DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY. A heart-stopping and jaw-dropping performance was brought by freshman Julia Mott at the Variety show. Mott delivered an eloquent statement about divorced families through her emotional dance routine, which she choreographed herself. She has been dancing since a very young age and has won many awards at the local, regional, state, and even national levels. “What I love about dance is it gives me a chance to express myself. I also love it because the more I dance and teach [dance], I grow as a dancer,” Mott said.

  • ROCKING OUT. Freshman Kasey Lowe plays the bass guitar in her rock band formed by her fellow marching band students. Low participates in both concert band and marching band and plays percussion. The group performed the famous rock song, “Dream On” by Aerosmith. “I really like being in a band because even though it’s a lot of work it’s really fun to watch everything come together, and I like meeting people with similar interests,” Lowe said.

  • TAKING THE STAGE. Freshman Madison Boni participates in a percussion ensemble led by sophomore Alex Ma. Boni qualified for the advanced band this year, despite being a freshman. She also participates in marching band in addition to concert band. “There’s a lot of fun people [in percussion] and you get to have a great time while hitting things as a percussionist,” Boni said.
