Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives on Jan. 3, 2019 as the youngest person ever sworn into office at age 29. As an outspoken Democrat, she has attracted the nickname “AOC” from the media and political analysts. Unlike most representatives, AOC did not come from a wealthy family or background. In fact, before being sworn in, she was working as a bartender on the Bronx, New York. Through her grassroots campaign, she won the seat and has now spent her time in office advocating for climate change, introducing the “Green New Deal” addressing environmental issues and is an active member in the Democratic Socialists of America community.
