Moments from Fashion for the Cure

  • FFTC. A fashion fundraising event planned by a student-run committee, Fashion for the Cure continues to share their creativity while benefiting the acclaimed Cincinnati non-profit, The Dragonfly Foundation. The thirteenth annual Fashion for the Cure raised a record breaking $48,000.

  • STRENGTH. COURAGE. JOY. Three simple words yet they have a big impact. Reflecting The Dragonfly Foundation’s mission, they help pediatric cancer patients and their families find the Strength, Courage, and Joy to fight cancer. Through their work, they help patients find hope during the tough times.

  • DANCE. Before the show’s intermission, the Sycamore Flyerettes led the dragonfly kids in a touching dance performance. Jamming out to Meghan Trainor’s “No Excuses,” the performance showcased the uninhibited joy of each survivor. “I absolutely loved dancing with the sweet dragonflies during the show. Not only were they constantly smiling, their positive energy was contagious. It was such an amazing event and I’m so lucky I got to partake in it,” said Bethany Dye, 10.

  • SMILE. An important segment of the show is when student designers walk hand and hand down the runway with the dragonfly kids. Each pair comes up with fun poses to show off during their walk. Pictured here is SHS senior Michelle Kerr along with her dragonfly.

  • HOPE. As far as poses go, this one was a crowd favorite for it showed the toughness of the survivor. After all, the FFTC committee agrees that the primary reason they chose to support The Dragonfly Foundation was because they provide encouragement and support during a dragonfly’s battle with cancer. By doing the show, not only are they raising money to support The Dragonfly Foundation’s mission, they give the kids a chance to enjoy being their true selves.

  • STYLE. Another show highlight includes the student designers. Ranging from all grade levels, SHS fashion students showcase their high fashion pieces. Pictured here is senior Firuza Muratova, who’s glamorous design won her second place in the fashion design competition.

  • POSE. SHS Juniors Grace Deppert and Devansh Saxena are one of the student model pairs feature during the show. While the underclassmen modeled casual wear, upperclassmen got to dress to the nines in formal wear from Folchi’s and Bridal and Formal. According to Deppert, she jumped at the chance to model because she’s really “glad [she] was able to support a fantastic cause.”

  • SNAP. Each year, the not only does the show featured SHS students, it also selects a few teachers to walk. Yes, you heard that right… who said SHS teachers couldn’t rock the runway too? A notable pair this year was Spanish teacher Mrs. Blackmore along with photo teacher Mr. Griga. Mr. Griga’s suit was donated by Folchi’s while Mrs. Blackmore modeled a dress from Bridal and Formal.
