On Wednesday, Nov. 19, an unprecedented 159 new National Honor Society (NHS) members were inducted.
Each one of these students had to excel in four areas to be a part of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service and character. This includes maintain a 3.6 GPA, contributing a minimum of 20 service hours to the community, and exhibiting consistent moral behavior, as noted on the NHS Blackboard site. Students must have also turned in an application earlier in the year.
This year’s induction ceremony was led by five senior officers: Ophelia Sidmore (President), Suhani Prakash (Vice President), Monica Simon-Thomas (Secretary), Tej Parikh (Treasurer), and Luke Carter (Communications).
At the ceremony, inductees got a chance to recognize a sponsor who has shaped them and helped them grow, whether they be influential teachers, coaches, or mentors.
“I chose [Ms. Quinnones] as my sponsor because her passion in both biology and teaching helped me find my own passion for biology,” said NHS inductee Hyori Han, 11.
After this induction ceremony, NHS inductees will get the chance to help out at many school and community volunteer activities and continue to serve their community.
