Model UN looks ahead to upcoming events

After local, state, and national conferences this past school year, the Model United Nations (MUN) club is wrapping up.

Although they have no more conferences to attend this year, MUN officers are already preparing for next year.

At a typical MUN conference, students debate issues and brainstorm possible solutions to world problems. Delegates then write resolutions and go into voting procedure to decide upon a satisfactory way to resolve the issue. “Our first conference next school year is at Mt. Notre Dame and it’s basically a learning experience for our newer and less experienced members,” said Nakul Narendran, 11.

The club will then attend Model United Nations at the University of Dayton (UD) in November.

“I’ve gone to UD every year since freshman year and I always look forward to it,” said Allison Rogge, 11.

For the fourth year in a row, MUN will again attend Model United Nations at the University of Chicago (MUNUC) in February. MUNUC is a four day conference and the club chooses around 24 members to attend.

The club is also considering attending another conference shortly after MUNUC; however, final decisions have not yet been made.

“A lot of our members are seniors and will be graduating, so we are looking forward to having a lot of new members join at the start of our next school year,” said Narendran.
