Hey! I’m Ella Schulte and I am a senior. This is my third year writing for The Leaf and I am so excited to have another year in this amazing program!! I joined journalism for many reasons, but mostly to learn and become more proficient at designing. Growing up, I always loved art and my #1 dream was to be an elementary school art teacher! That may not be the case anymore, but being part of this staff and taking Graphic Design has made me realize that I would love to pursue a career in design! In addition to design, writing has always been one of my strengths and passions and I cannot wait to collaborate with so many other talented writers this year!

Outside of school, I spend lots of time dancing. I have been a dancer since I was very young and love everything it has to offer from the exercise to expression to experimenting with new choreography. Above all, I LOVE performing onstage. Standing onstage in bright lights is one of the best feelings in the world! In addition to dancing to one of my other hobbies is videography. In the past few years, some of my favorite projects have been filming behind-the-scenes ads for photographers, promos for AVES THEATRE shows, and an ad for a local brownie shop, Buckabee Brownies! Outside of my hobbies and school, I spend lots of time with my friends and family. I am the middle sister of three girls which I love! (I have my big sister to copy and my little sister to boss around).

I hope to continue using the writing and design skills I learn in journalism way into the future, and cannot wait to create this year! Happy reading!

As Halloween approaches, SHS students are enjoying many spooky traditions such as watching horror movies and attending Kings Island’s Halloween haunt. These traditions are filled with most people's worst nightmares. So why do so many people love them?

CURTAINS UP. Last week, New York governor, Andrew Cuomo, announced that for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Broadway auditoriums will open at 100% capacity this fall. According to Cuomo, “Broadway is a major part of our state’s identity and economy, and we are thrilled that the curtains will rise again.” Link in bio to find out more about the reopening!

WARM WEATHER. After a week of snowy days and below-freezing temperatures, warm spring days are just what we need. In addition to the many physical benefits that come from a quick walk around the block or hike in the woods, simply being outside greatly benefits our mental health.

GELWICKS INSPIRES. SHS and The Leaf alum, Andrew Gelwicks, recently shared his story with The Leaf's current staff. When asked how he earned his success, he emphasized the importance of passion, drive, and assertiveness. “I think the challenge has been the advantage. The challenges and experiences got me where I am today," said Gelwicks.

On March 8th, dancers from Cincy Dance Studio were packed backstage at a dance competition surrounded by hundreds of people from all over the country. Music was blasting, people were cheering as they had the time of their lives. Little did they know their beloved dance studio was five days away from shutting down for months due to the Coronavirus. Lauren Andrews, owner of the studio, said, “I do think our industry will be impacted for the foreseeable future. And it’s up to us to ensure our dancers that they still have a safe environment for them to attend.”
