Lindsay Ruskin, Deputy Design Editor

Hi Guys! My name is Lindsay Ruskin and I am a junior. I am your deputy design editor for the 2021-22 school year! This job means that I make sure all of the designs run smoothly and look presentable for our viewers of The Leaf. I have always been interested in The Leaf even as a little girl. My interest started when my brothers would bring home copies each month from school. I decided to join journalism because I wanted to make the newspaper pretty, and now that is what I get to do. Here are some things about me: My favorite TV shows are “Gossip Girl” and “New Girl.” I also love to listen to music no matter what I am doing, and I have different songs for different moods and for different times of the day. This summer, I was able to see my favorite artist, Blackbear, in concert which was probably one of the highlights of my entire lifetime. I am so excited to have a bigger position in journalism and I can’t wait for another great year in journalism. Everyone better get the chance to buy and read at least one issue of The Leaf this year, and if not, scroll through our website!!!!

Senior Abi Singstock spent a significant portion of her junior year working on her AP Research paper, an exploration into the various meal options for students with vegetarian or vegan diets. Singstock's paper would end up expanding to 30 pages worth of compiled data, analysis, and research, and was published by the High School Branch of The Journal of Student Research. Her work is now also being referenced by the Board of Education to develop more vegetarian and vegan-friendly cafeteria options for students at school, bringing Singstock's ideas to reality.

SUMMER. This is capturing one of the best moments of all summer at sleepaway camp. There might not be any new photographs at camp this summer, or for that matter anywhere. “This was going to be my seventh year at camp, and I haven't spent a whole summer in Cincinnati since 2013. I am not ready for this to happen because camp is like my other home,” said Peter Brownell, 9.

THE GROCERY STORE PROBLEM. The stay at home in Ohio has been extended to May 1st at the earliest. Everyone has been stocking up for over a month with the supplies that they need such as food. Along with these necessities, others have been stocking up on Toilet paper, and they leave others with nothing. According to a NY Times writer and producer, “An excess of toilet paper will not help protect you against COVID-19, but it will cause a run on supplies that keeps others from getting what they might need.” Everyone buying these excessive amounts of food allows fear to come upon others’ minds if they did not buy enough as other people. Everyone wants their family to prepare and people buy as much as they can, no matter the cost and who it might be hurting.

DISNEY. Many of these characters pictured above are featured on Disney Plus. They appear in TV shows and movies that were aired a long time ago, but that doesn’t mean they are not popular anymore!

THANKSGIVING. Each year, the Thanksgiving turkey is one of the most looked forward to foods. Personally, my favorite part of Thanksgiving is the dinner with my family.
