The indoor track team will travel to Cedarville, OH on Sat. Jan. 31 to compete in their second track meet of the season.   The meet will be held at Cedarville University, which is about an hour away.

“I’m nervous because the track is shorter, but I’m excited to finally get competitive again,” freshman Jodie Lawson said.

The meet will be held around a 200-meter track, which is half the size of a standard 400-meter length track, doubling the usual laps necessary to achieve the same distance.  This is due to the limited space indoors for tracks.

The shorter travel of this meet allows the team to bring a larger number of athletes than their first meet in which there was a four hour bus ride each way.

“I’m going to be driven up by my parents so that I don’t have to get on the early morning bus,” Lawson said.

Although there is a bus to transport the athletes, many athletes racing in later events will drive up individually to avoid waiting at the meet unnecessarily.

“I’m definitely still going to stay after my event to watch my brother and everyone else compete,” Lawson said.

Distance coach Steve Nester will also be taking a later group of those racing the 2-mile run in his Buckeye Running Company van, or “shoe bus”.

For some athletes, this will be their first high school track experience or 200-meter track experience.  Many athletes have not previously participated in winter track and have never run in an indoor meet.
